The first day of the Chinese New Year falls on January 22 this year. Also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, the Spring Festival is widely celebrated in China and many East Asian countries.
Families usually gather during this time to share sumptuous meals, while children are often given cash in red packets known as “hong bao”.
The beginning of the lunar year also sees the rotation of the 12-year Chinese zodiac, each of which is represented by an animal.

The twelve who made them, in order of appearance, are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
