“Some of the highlights were finishing the Fifth Avenue piece, basically from the Co-op gas station to the freeway,” Leslie said. “That is something that the residents of that area have been asking for for a couple of years. We were finally able to get it off the wish list.”
Sidewalk improvements were also on the city’s to-do list for the year. A new sidewalk was laid on Second Avenue West, from 17th Street to Battle Springs, on the east side.
“That’s something that a long-term resident came up here after we did it and said he was promised 35 years ago by the mayor and council at the time, that that sidewalk would go in,” Leslie said. “It’s something we just did this year.”
He said it’s always good to hear positive feedback from residents and to know that the city’s work is making a difference.
“It really makes a person feel like they’re a success in the big picture,” Leslie said.
There are still some paving projects to be done, such as the one on Central Avenue, which will last until 2023.
