DURANT, OK – The past year had many memorable highlights, achievements and events for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. A brief overview of the highlights for the nation in 2022 includes:

  • Hunting and fishing in the reserve. When the State of Oklahoma chose not to renew the hunting and fishing compacts with the Five Tribes, the Choctaw Nation exercised its sovereign rights over land and game by establishing new codes allowing hunting and fishing on reservation lands.   • Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant 35th Anniversary. The opening of the Choctaw casino in 1987 was celebrated with various events and promotions. The successful effort by the Choctaw Nation remains a key economic driver for southeastern Oklahoma.
  • First anniversary of the Cultural Center. July 23 marked the first anniversary of the Choctaw Cultural Center. The Choctaw Cultural Center has also recently been named one of the top ten model museums at the International Conference on Indian Archives, Libraries and Museums.
  • First in-person Labor Day celebration since the COVID pandemic. Enthusiastic crowds returned for the three-day event at Tvskha Homma.
  • Stickball Champions. The Tvshkahomma Ohoyo won their first women’s championship at the Labor Day festival. Tvshkahomma Ohoyo’s Alissa French was named MVP of the tournament.
