USM’s Fay B. Kaigler Children’s Book Festival Returns In-Person April 12-14

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Annual Children’s Book Festival will be held April 12-14 at the Hattiesburg campus, where award-winning writer and artist and bestselling Jane Luen Yang will be honored with the event’s award, the Miss Southern Medal.
The festival will be held in person for the first time in three years due to previous restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and will also feature an Ezra Jack Keats tribute concert.
Yang joined the Kaigler Festival family in 2015 when he was the keynote speaker. He is the bestselling author and artist behind American born ChineseAnd Boxers and SaintsAnd Avatar: The Last Airbender Caricature dragon collarsAnd Superman destroys the clanAnd many other distinguished works. American born ChineseJane’s first graphic novel, was the first graphic novel ever to be selected as a finalist for a National Book Award. The book won the Printz Award, the ALA Award for Best Young Adult Book Published in a Single Year, and the Eisner Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the comic book world.
