Alabama Living once again sponsored a cooking competition at the Alabama National GalleryMarking its eighth year, the magazine helped judge the annual competition at the fair’s Creative Living Center.
The exhibition is sponsored The Kiwanis Club of MontgomeryIt attracts thousands of visitors from all over central Alabama. The theme for the recent exhibition’s cooking competition was a new theme, “What’s Your Heritage?” Face recipes reflect the background of the participants. Among the winners were dishes from the culture of Native Americans, West Africa and Ireland.
First place: Indian tacos with Indian fried bread

ingredients
bread:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 cup of milk
- 4 cups of oil for frying

- 1 lb. minced meat
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 15 ounce can of beans
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 2 cups of lettuce
