These Biblical images inspired by the Bible appear in a special excerpt from a movie about Jesus Christ that has been translated into the Muscogee language.
Aaron Hanzel, Muscogee film dubbing director for “The Savior” translation project Nativity Mvskoke, said a group of Oklahoma churches recently received a video titled “The Savior” with subtitles. The snippet depicting the Nativity was distributed just in time for the Christmas season.
“The Redeemer,” which was shot in the Middle East, has been released in more than 40 languages around the world, and Hansel said there is hope that the entire film will be translated into Muscogee.
Jennifer Barnett, the project’s language and culture coordinator, said the project would go a long way to help efforts to preserve the Muscogee language, which she considers to be of vital importance.
“It may encourage people who are developing their Muscogee language skills,” said Barnett, of Shawnee. “It’s a good resource for preserving and revitalizing language as well.”
With this hope in mind, several Oklahomans of Muscogee heritage helped translate Christmas scenes from the film into the Muscogee language.
