NOAA’s Alaska District has named Emily Wilson as its new coordinator for tribal relations. Amelie previously served as the Tribal Coordinator for NOAA Fisheries West Coast Regional Offices in Lacey, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. She has worked extensively in grant management including emergency fisheries funding associated with the Coronavirus Relief, Economic Security and Relief (CARES) Act and the Consolidated Appropriations Act. Amelie received the 2022 NOAA Director of the Year Award for her exemplary work implementing the CARES Act.
As the tribal coordinator for the West Coast region, Amelie has revamped the tribal relations training program. She also served as a founding member and co-chair of the NOAA Native American/Alaska Native Employee Resource Group. She was often consulted as an expert to assist with tribal relations issues across the agency. Amilee has more than 25 years of experience working with Native American tribes in the private, state and federal sectors. She gained extensive knowledge and experience in tribal history, treaties, sovereignty, autonomy, protocols, customs and traditions.
