British-Nigerian actress, TV presenter and model Eku Edewor talks about her passion for sports, racism and more in this interview with ANTHONY NLEBEM
Were Did you participate in sports activities growing up?
I was involved in sports in my elementary and high school days. I was very active in school sports. I held the track record for the indoor 100m and the long jump record at my high school. I also played soccer and was part of my school’s team in England.
Looking at how much athletes earn these days, do you regret not pursuing a career in sports?
I don’t regret not having a career in sports. I don’t think I have the discipline to be an athlete. It takes a lot of dedication and hours of training and this takes a lot out of the body. It’s very physically demanding and I just didn’t see myself in that kind of race. My sister tried to encourage me to do it, but I couldn’t cope with the rigorous daily workouts. You have to be extremely dedicated if you want to become a successful athlete.
What Nigerian athlete do you admire?
The champion of the world. Toby Amusan. I’m really impressed by the level he’s racing at and the fact that he was able to improve his time; and she keeps getting better.
