Midland may have lost at a Costcobut you could be gaining a new on-site entertainment center.
Midland Development Corp. unveiled a proposed entertainment center on Friday that will sit on 17.2 acres at Sinclair Avenue and what will become Kirkland Drive, where Costco planned to build its store before canceling the project.
MDC board members will vote Monday at their board meeting to execute a letter of intent between the MDC, the City of Midland and Hodges Development Services to develop the project. The project will consist of a 60,000-square-foot family theater and entertainment center lot, complete with an outdoor music and event stage; Lot to be occupied by a nationally recognized retailer and comprised of about 60,000 square feet; and plated lots for other general retailers and restaurants. Confidentiality agreements prevent the disclosure of the specific names involved in the development
Sara Harris, MDC’s CEO, stressed to the Reporter-Telegram that the letter of intent is non-binding and that the full agreement will be presented to the MDC board and City Council multiple times before it is finalized. She requires construction of the development to begin on September 1 of the following year and be completed no later than January 1, 2027.
