The Kamloopa Powwow Society is currently at the center of outrage in the Indian country on social media after posting its rules for registration of dancers on its Facebook.
“All contestants must have at least (1/4) Native blood, proof of ID/tribal status may be required; Each contestant must be fully clothed during competitions, large turnouts, random displays/testing, and be of the correct gender for that category.”
It didn’t take long for social media natives to voice their disapproval.
“Colonialism at its finest. you should be ashamed of yourselves. We have always accepted people of 2 spirits. What are you teaching the youth? Ramona Lomu said in the comments section of the announcement on Facebook.

“You guys really forgot that the blood issue is a racist, colonizing mentality that was first created to ‘get rid of the Indians’ and strip us of our own rights… Do better Kamloopa, you’re making us all look like Secwepemc natives. wrong,” Angela Kilgour also said in the Facebook comments section.
