If you’ve been struggling to keep those New Year’s resolutions, or are looking for an introspective and entertaining musical experience, Matthew Duplessi’s monthly “Healing Sounds Concert” at Savannah Cultural Arts Center It might be the catalyst you need.
With a range of folk and traditional instruments – hand drums, didgeridoo, wooden flutes, singing bowls – Duplessie weaves his sound through these and, in live performance, stacks layers of sound with looped pedal technique to make a sonic tapestry of relaxation and meditation. Projected images, swirls of color and pattern, complement melodies, harmonies, and rhythms, forming an experience primed for deep reflection and transformation.
“We all have the ability to transcend limiting beliefs, ways of thinking that inhibit our growth as human beings,” Duplessi said. “Sound and meditation are two tools we can use for personal growth and understanding, and if you think of our bodies as complex works of technology that we can improve with proper care and maintenance, then sound and meditation are powerful tools to expand on to help us focus, learn and overcome obstacles.”
