Eddie Murphy brings ‘The Slap’ to 2023 Golden Globe Awards with Will Smith joke

Eddie Murphy did not mince words in accepting the Cecil B. de Mille Award on Wednesday Golden Globes 2023.
Instead, he joked about βthe slap” – If that infamous moment which took place at the 2022 Oscars, and taxes, while bequeathing advice to Hollywood’s young stars and wannabes.
βTo all the new dreamers and emerging artists in the room tonight, I want to let you know that there is one ultimate blueprint you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,β Murphy said.

According to Murphy, three factors are key: “Pay your taxes, mind your business and keep the name of Will Smith’s wife out of his fucking mouth,” he quipped, pointing to the incident between Smith and comedian Chris Rock.
While Murphy made the joke, he hasn’t actually spoken to Smith or Rock about their infamous interaction last year, he revealed in the press room after accepting the award (“No, I haven’t, but I love them both, ” he said).
Murphy received the Cecil B. deMille Award for his career in entertainment, which has spanned five decades. The award, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, honors “a talented individual for his or her outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”
