Column: The city must be based on its diversity, not follow a divisive path

Suffolk is home to groups from diverse communities that work together as an organic system. Communities are not always easy to maintain; complications will always rise to the occasion; therefore, how the community deals with these situations will determine the health of the system itself.
When a community is growing in population, it is very important to be open and communicate with the entire public about all the changes that are coming to the city. This open line of communication will allow the voice of the people to be heard and respected. Everyone must be welcome and have a seat at the table; and we must not isolate the voices of those who cultivate community survival in times of stress, need and survival.
What makes Suffolk special is the peaceful camaraderie that can be seen among the diverse communities of this beautiful city. This can be seen at the Peanut Festival, Four of July Festival, Taste of Suffolk, Pow Wow and many more celebrations and festivals in Suffolk.
It can be seen at local coffee shops and breweries. It can even be seen in the halls of Ruritan meeting houses; which was formed locally in Suffolk in 1928, to light the fire of…
