The establishment of an “entertainment district” downtown received its first broadcast at the Magnolia City Council meeting on Monday.

If the council approves the proposal after hearing the ordinance during its February and possibly March meetings, patrons of restaurants within the district would be able to consume alcoholic beverages outdoors within district boundaries.
The proposed district is comprised of Magnolia Square and selected portions of neighboring streets. Please refer to the map accompanying this article and note the blue shaded area, which is the proposed entertainment zone.
The ordinance has 10 pages, but is summarized in these points:
People would be allowed to have and drink alcoholic beverages outdoors in the district between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Schedule changes may be made to accommodate special events in the district.
While you can’t have drinks outside after 10 p.m., the legal closing time inside would remain at 2 a.m.
The drinks would have to be sold to individuals by restaurants in the district that have the proper licenses to sell alcohol. Vendors would provide drinks to customers in specialty brand cups and with an approved wristband.
A person could only have one drink at a time. Drinks would only be allowed in glasses…
