The first leg in Dhaka of the ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) saw quite a bit of action both on and off the pitch before the tournament shifts to Chattogram for the playoffs from Friday. There have been some highlights during the Dhaka match by the teams and individuals which certainly promise an exciting tournament in the future.

Sylhet shines brightly under the inspiring Mashrafe

Although Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is no longer in contention for the national team selection, the inspiring cricketer made his mark with his leadership quality as Sylhet Strikers completed the Dhaka leg on an unbeaten run, winning all four games to remain in the top of the points table. The 39-year-old led from the front and continued to be instrumental with his mid-pace and is among the top wicket-takers in the tournament so far, taking seven wickets at an economy of 7.46. The charismatic cricketer led the team with the highest authority since the inception of the BPL, and a mix of youth and experience made Sylhet one of the biggest contenders for this edition of the BPL title. Also, the presence of another experienced cricketer in Mushfiqur Rahim has provided a lot of security in the batting line-up, and along with some talented young players from home and abroad, Sylhet remains a balanced unit.
