DANCE: ‘Dance on Main’
The Pine Bluff Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas houses “Dance on Main” with choreographer Gia Turner, open to ages 16 and older, Thursdays 5:30-7 pm at The ARTSpace on Main, 623 S. Main St., Pine Bluff, with additional classes, 5:30-7 pm on November 9 February and March 9. This beginning class covers the fundamentals of stretching, dance terminology and technique; each week’s class will focus on a different style: hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary. Turner, a Pine Bluff native, captained the Watson Chapel Steppers and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff M4 Golden Girls and coached the Watson Chapel Golden Motion Dance-Line. ART AND EXHIBITIONS: ceramic sculptures
“Kukuli Velarde: CORPUS”, 15 ceramic sculptures, each with a matching tapestry, by Peruvian-American artist Kukuli Velarde that reflect on the meaning of survival in the face of colonialism, are on display Monday at the Brad Cushman Gallery, Windgate Center for Art and Design, University of Arkansas in Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The exhibition remains until March 3.
Velarde will give Windgate’s Distinguished Lecture, “A Voice of My Own,” on February 24 at 6 pm in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UALR Fine Arts Building. A reception will follow, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the…
