ACLU Complaint Charges Discrimination against NorCal Native American Students

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California has filed a complaint with the US Department of Education for Civil Rights alleging discriminatory actions toward Native American students with disabilities in Humboldt County.
The complaint states, “The Bear River Band Tribal Council is filing this complaint due to continued discrimination based on race/ethnicity and disability by the Loleta Union School District.”
Once the complaint was filed, the ACLU said, the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation into the Lolita Union School District regarding the matter, citing the disclosure of additional disturbing acts.
