St. George – How Native American voices are portrayed in the media New research into the home of Native Americans is revealed at the Sundance Film Festival.
During the Jan. 21 session, “Post-News Storytelling,” the conversations revolved around experiences and connecting with audiences to increase original visibility.
“I feel as if a lot of times when they tell stories about Aboriginal people and Aboriginal people, they get really sad, especially when the Aboriginal creators don’t make them,” Madison Hammond told the St. George News.
Hammond is a professional soccer player for Angel City, an expansion team of the National Women’s Soccer League. She is the first indigenous professional soccer player.
“They look forward to telling us like a sob story, and I feel there is so much joy and beauty that lives on in our community,” Hammond said. “We talk about things like Black Excellence and Black Joy. I want there to be more stories where it is Aboriginal fun and Aboriginal excellence because there are so many great creators and filmmakers out there.”
