The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is the largest scenic area in the United States, covering more than 80 miles of forests, hills, and bluffs in Oregon and southwestern Washington.
Its original management plan included the ambitious goal of creating a network of tracks to circumnavigate the entire strait. Forty years later, that vision is getting closer to reality with the creation of a 200-mile trail network connecting cities in Oregon and Washington on both sides of the Columbia River.

Gorge Towns to Trails Project Director Renee Tkach speaks with “Think Out Loud” host Dave Miller on the Riverfront Trail in The Dalles on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Tkach hopes to see the trail links between Hood River, The Dalles, Washougal, Stevenson and Underwood and Lyle in the next fifty years.
